Our brands BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad have made us one of the world's leading premium manufacturer of cars and motorcycles as well as provider of premium financial and mobility services.

THIS MUCH DOING ISN'T DOABLE AT JUST ANY COMPANY.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

We believe in creating an environment where our interns really can learn by doing  and where they are given their own areas of responsibility right from the start of their time with us. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied master thesis in the area of explicit Isogeometric Analysis (IGA). IGA is a novel simulation method that generalizes conventional Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The key concept of IGA is to directly use the B-spline and NURBS basis functions, commonly employed for CAD geometry representation, to also describe the solution fields. This enables a faster design-through-analysis workflow and avoids time-consuming model conversions.

What awaits you?

  • In your new role you will gain an in-depth understanding of the IGA and the cross-talk theory.
  • Furthermore, you will learn multiple techniques for damage and fracture modeling.
  • You will collaborate closely with multiple IGA experts from industry and academia.
  • Additionally, you will stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in IGA and its applications in vehicle crash simulations.

Please note that your thesis must be supervised by a university on your part.

What should you bring along?

  • Master studies in computational mechanics, mathematics, computational science of engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Strong mathematical background.
  • Strong knowledge of explicit FEM and/or IGA is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in programming with Python and Fortran.
  • Fluent English is required, German is an advantage.
  • Initiative and strong self-motivation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
